Pandemic recovery needs an all-new timetable
Iain Docherty, Professor in the Institute for Advanced Studies at the University of Stirling, and Greg Marsden, Professor in the Institute of Transport Studies at the University of Leeds, reflect on how Covid-19 has changed how we travel and how pandemic recovery choices will affect transport and carbonisation.
With an end to the worst of the public health emergency perhaps in sight, the longer term social and economic impacts of Covid-19 are coming into stark relief. As for many areas of activity, there is no doubt that coronavirus has been the biggest shock to the transport sector in living memory. Combined with the scale of the change needed to achieve decarbonisation, the next few years could prove extremely challenging as the sector seeks to recover.
